Discovery Green

Houston, Texas

Winner of the 2009 ULI Development of Distinction Awards, this 11.8 acre park emphasizes connectivity to the city, replacing a street with a promenade to Minute Maid Park to the north and Toyota Arena to the south. Designed for a Gold LEED rating, the park incorporates 256 photovoltaic and solar hot panels. The park features The Grove Restaurant, an interactive water feature, dog runs and a lake suitable for sailing remote-controlled boats in the summer and ice skating in the winter. Structural scope of work included design of three major building structures, wood decks, water features and sculpture foundations.

Additional Information

Structural Systems: Steel braced frames were designed and constructed for each of the three primary building super structures. The second floor of the two-story signature restaurant was framed using composite concrete and steel framing. All of the structures were founded on drilled and under-reamed footings.
